toy soup

I heard someone say her house was clean enough to be healthy, and dirty enough to be happy.  That pretty much hits the mark for me!  Even with my bar set at a realistic standard, it is hard to keep up with three busy (ie messy) preschoolers.  We try to get all the toys back into the playroom at the end of the day, and about once a week, I *help* the kids get the playroom in order.

Today, I spent about an hour *helping* the kids put all their toys in their labeled bins, getting each puzzle piece in the right box, and decluttering their craft bins.  Then I disappeared downstairs to work on my own craft.  It was 20 minutes of playful bliss!

When I returned to the playroom, the children told me they were making "soup".  Here is their recipe:

Toy Soup

14 lincoln logs
23 duplo legos
4 train tracks
1 deck of Old Maid cards
1 box of dominos
26 crayons, broken into pieces
8 puzzle pieces
1 bucket of little people
elephants, pigs, puppies, sheep or any other plastic animal in season
3 balls, various sizes
2 sticks of chalk
magnet letters (optional)

1. Dump out a large bin of rec equipment.
2. Add first 10 ingredients.
3. Stir together using two hockey sticks and a golf club.
4. Garnish with crumbled chalk and magnet letters, if desired.
5.  Soup is ready when you see smoke coming out of your mothers ears.
