spotlight on Lydia

A little spotlight on Lydia-

Unlike Brett, I always have to talk Lydia into going outside, but once she's out, she always has fun.  These pictures were taken a few weeks ago, the ice rinks are closed now.  It is currently 12 degrees, but we have had some warmer days.

Lydia (and Reggie) took her first no-parent-in-pool swimming class this winter.  She did a great job! It was really nice to have them both in the same class.
Lydia is really motivated to learn in preschool.  In the above video, she is reading a book she has never seen before!  We have a temporary dinosaur exhibit at the Children's Museum.  I thought it was really interesting that Lydia found the pretend baby dinosaurs in their nests and imagined the adult dinosaurs mothering their babies, while Reggie's dinosaurs were fighting!
Lydia loves preschool, but she is really looking forward to kindergarten.  It was fun to have Brett "take" her to kindergarten registration night and show her around.

spotlight on Brett

Time for a little spotlight on Brett!
There isn't much that's cuter than this toothless smile dressed up with his tie. (He wanted to look "stylish" for church).  Other than frequent visits from the tooth fairy, Brett loves to play outside even when it's cold.  We have had an unprecedented six cancelled school days since Christmas due to cold and snow.

Here is Brett waiting for the bus.  Our current official snow-on-the-ground total is 24 inches.

Brett likes school.  There have been really great things about this year and some struggles, too.  Typically, a child has to be reevaluated for special education services every three years, which came up for Brett around his sixth birthday. Anyone who has been around schools or kids much knows that test results don't always give a full picture, so we appreciated the specialists insight to provide services for another year.  We will just have to see what happens when he is reevaluated at age seven. (For a reason not understood by Bryan and I, the "label" of "developmental delay" does not exist once a child turns seven.)

Brett decided he wanted to give basketball camp a try this winter.  The high school team puts it on for K-2 kids and he loved it!  I am so proud of Brett for trying something new, doing something outside of his comfort zone, and practicing hard.

He even made a few baskets!

mom on a mission

It's no secret this winter has been harsh.  Today, on President's Day, we found ourselves stuck at home once again. Reggie on the tail end of a cold, and Lydia on her FOURTH day of a nasty stomach bug.  For the most part, we have been moving along through the winter in good spirits, but the furniture has taken a beating.  So, when I discovered the boys jumping off their dressers onto chair cushions, I knew it was time to take action.  I was a mom on a mission.
