Here you will find a compilation of Lydia's many musical talents. Her 8th grade year included performances in band, jazz band, piano, and Beauty and the Beast!
For the last couple of years, Lydia has been doing piano lessons with her cousin who studied music in college. This year, she joined a worship band for the children's ministry in our church called "You Bet Cassette"! I added an audio piece of her playing during a portion of the highlight video.
Lydia decided to try out for the middle school's musical rather than do track this spring. She was in the village ensamble and played the part of the baker. I was proud of her for trying something new and it was an impressive performance. It was also a great way to make some new friends!
Jazz band was a lot of fun, too! Her previous school barely had enough participants to make a band and didn't do any performances. We loved the Royal Night of Jazz!
Lydia was also invited to participate in the district's honor band, and a metro honor band.
We held off for half a year of not having piano lessons before I went online to find a virtual option. I didn't have high expectations, thinking that much would be lost through video. To the contrary, we stumbled upon a very talented teacher who utilizes the online format beautifully. Lydia loves her teacher, and I love the convenience. I think this is one thing we will stick with beyond the pandemic.
A virtual recital was held in May. I didn't want to be a distraction during the live event, so I videoed her "dress rehearsal".
Sometimes it seems as though our world revolves around sports. And then there is Lydia - who loves music! This was her second year participating in the school's elective choir, and she has been taking piano lesson for a full year. Her spring concert and first piano recital landed on the same Tuesday, and she had guests from 4 states attend! (Grandma from South Dakota, Cousin Audri from Iowa, MeeMaw and Papa from Wisconsin, and of course Mom, Dad, Reggie, and Brett)
